Chelsea captain John Terry returns after knee injury.

He had initially been expected to miss three weeks of action, but is only closing in on a return to the first team after two months on the sidelines.

The centre-back, who was injured in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool, played 45 minutes.

The team manager Dermot Drummy said: «He looked in good shape.»

Terry was watched by Chelsea’s interim manager Rafael Benitez, who said earlier this week that he could be fit for Saturday’s trip to Stoke.

The former England captain has yet to play for Chelsea under the Spaniard. Terry, who played the first half of the 2-0 win over Fulham, told Chelsea TV  that he was feeling fine.

He has not featured for the Blues since injuring his knee in a collision with Reds striker Luis Suarez.
