Premier League — Paper Round: Cesc to beg for final spot

by admin on Пятница, Февраль 25th, 2011

Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of the Carling Cup final, but that is not the end of the story — according to The Sun.

«Cesc: Let me play» is their back page story as they claim the Arsenal captain will today «beg Arsene Wenger to change his mind and give him a chance» to play in the final.

The paper quotes an «Arsenal insider» as saying: «Cesc wants to play so badly. He had a scan which showed only a strain, not a tear. He is having another one on Friday and will have more treatment.

«He is the captain and wants to lead his team out so badly. He respects the manager’s views but is desperate to be involved.»

This could be a will-he-or-won’t-he issue right up until the team sheets are handed in.

Transfer rumours are uncharacteristically thin on the ground in Friday’s papers but a couple do link Everton with a move for Leicester midfielder Andy King.

The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals this season to help Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side move into play-off contention.

The Daily Mail also says the club are monitoring £7m-rated PSV Eindhoven winger Balazs Dzsudzsak, 24, but face competition from Arsenal.

The Daily Mirror claims that Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is among several managers checking out Fenerbahce right-back Gokhan Gonul.

The 26-year-old is out of contract in the summer but the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested.

Fulham have been linked with Lech Poznan’s Latvian international striker Artjoms Rudnev. The 22-year-old, who can also play right wing, scored four goals over the course of two games against Juventus in the Europa League this season.

Crystal Palace prospect Nathaniel Clyne could make a summer move to the Premier League with both Blackburn and Birmingham monitoring the 19-year-old defender. (Mirror)

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish is deciding whether to make an offer for American Alejandro Bedoya after the midfielder spent a week on trial at St Andrew’s. (Mail)

Finally, the Daily Star picks up on reports from France yesterday that Belgian sensation Eden Hazard, who has been linked with a host of top clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool, is set to sign a new deal with current club Lille.
